17-Year Old Teenage Palestinian Activist Ahed Tamimi Is Released From an Israeli Prison
17-year old teenage Palestinian activist Ahed Tamimi was released from an Israeli prison on Sunday, July 29 after an 8-month prison sentence for slapping and kicking an Israeli soldier outside her own home. After the incident went viral across the internet in 2017, especially on Facebook, she was arrested by Israeli authorities for 12 counts of assault, incitement, interfering with soldiers and throwing stones. In March of 2018, she pleaded guilty for four of the charges. Tamimi is the daughter of longtime grassroots activist Bassem Tamimi. Because of the incident, arrest, and eventual release, the young Tamimi has become another political icon in the West Bank.
Currently, Tamimi’s 22-year old brother, Waed Tamimi, was also arrested in May for alleged involvement in the incident.
