2019 Grammy Watch: Best Rock Performance

Arctic Monkeys: Four Out of Five – This band’s latest outing was certainly a divisive one, with the band incorporating lounge-jazz styles and sci-fi themes into their work. “Four Out Of Five” is the closest thing that Alex Turner and Co. could offer as a single, with the vocals evoking the late great David Bowie. This is a dark horse nominee for sure and could be the band’s first Grammy win.
Chris Cornell: When Bad Does Good – After his untimely demise, it is so refreshing to hear Cornell’s pipes wail on this tune. This track is sure to evoke nostalgia for children of the 90s, which makes this song a frontrunner for any rock fan.
Halestorm: Uncomfortable – Lzzy Hale proved that she has the most aggressive female voice in the business and this standout track from the band’s third outing, Vicious, shows that Ms. Hale has no signs of slowing down any time soon.
Greta Van Fleet: Highway Tune – This band has been everywhere for both good and bad reasons. Whether you think they are signs of a rock resurgence, or a bunch of kids ripping off the esteemed Led Zeppelin, they are one of the most successful bands of last year without question.
Fever 333: Made An America – After the breakup of post-hardcore outfit LetLive, lead singer Jason Aaron Butler started a new rapcore group Fever 333. Coming out with a spellbinding debut EP last year, their new album proves they’ll be a band worth paying attention in the coming years.
Most Likely to Win:
Either Cornell or Greta Van Fleet. While Greta Van Fleet are the darlings of rock and roll and a shoo-in for a Grammy Award, people will more than likely vote for Cornell as a tribute to the late grunge titan.
Who Should Win:
Fever 333. While the other nominees showcase a brand of rock music that evokes the by-gone eras of rock, “Made An America” shows a definite shift as to where rock could go in the coming years.
