Police helicopters disrupt tailgate festivities at Penn State

A police helicopter flying close to 30 feet above the ground outside of Beaver Stadium sent debris, tents, and other items flying on Saturday as students and visitors tailgated before the game.

According to an Onward State article, a Penn State parent, Scott Olson, asked a nearby fraternity to move their tent a few spots over and contacted police when the fraternity members refused. No physical police contact was initiated until nearly 4 P.M. when a helicopter flew over the tailgating area causing a slew of items to become uprooted, scratching cars and hitting tailgaters.

Olson explained that no disturbance between the fraternity tailgate and his own prompted the police interference. He contacted State College Police, University Police, and State Police about the incident and took to twitter to recap the event.

Penn State tailgate was crazy! The cops tried to break up the tailgating by flying a helicopter 30 feet above everyone. It sent tents flying.

This comes after Penn State news reported in August that students and visitors should expect increased police presence and security at games this season.
