Live: Maroon 5 in Boston October 7, 2018
Maroon 5 came to Boston on their Red Pill Blues Tour Oct. 7 , accompanied by the talented Julia Michaels. The highly anticipated tour drew a full house to the 19,000 seat TD Garden on a Sunday night.
Julia Michaels — who has written songs for Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Justin Bieber, and Gwen Stefani — opened the show, citing that this was her first time in Boston. She certainly made the trip one count, with great singing, and a tight band supporting her. A cover of Bieber’s “Sorry” got the crowd singing along. Her performance was energetic, and you knew she was having fun.
The main event, of course, was Maroon 5.
They delivered popular hits “Payphone” and “Animals” and had the crowd singing along the entire show. Some even stood up from there seats to dance. Lead vocalist Adam Levine demonstrated just why his vocals are so contagious on this great bands’ songs.
Throughout the show, we also saw some great guitar solos from Levine and lead guitarist James Valentine. It was prowess with the strings of rock. Levine switched guitars a few times during the show too. Showing some nice versatility next to the amazing show of lights that lit up their stage.
Drummer Matt Flynn even got his chance at a solo, and he was impressive.
It was nice to see Levine pay homage to the great Michael Jackson by covering “Rock With You,” with a disco ball on stage — a classic moment. The band did exit the stage after a few hours of playing. The crowd wasn’t ready to go home, and roared for an encore.
Maroon 5 obliged, kicking it off by covering “Forever Young” by Alphaville. It was a nice closing touch. Don’t we all want to stay young forever?
