Children’s App Takes a Nightmarish Turn and is Banned from Google Play

Google banned an app after finding that the app threatens to stab children.

The free app, titled “call Blaze and the Monster Machines 2018,” is based on the kids show “Blaze and the Monster Machines.” The app allows users to “call” a character from the show. Instead of the cheerful, animated voice you would expect from a cartoon character, you are met with a sinister voice that threatens the user.

A concerned mother filmed the message that plays from the app and urged other parents to pay close attention to what their children are downloading on their phones.

“Hi kids, I’m your new friend Happy Slappy, whatever you want me to be called,” the message begins. “You see I want to play with you kiddo, maybe we could perform some fun games together.”

The message seems fairly innocent at first despite ominous voice, but then the content takes a dark turn.

“What’s this hogwash? You look afraid,” the message continues. “Is it this knife in my whirly twirly hands? Making you a little nervous, huh? That’s all right ’cause this is knife is gonna improve your look when it’s sticking right out of you.”

A Google spokesperson confirmed in a statement to the Manchester Evening News that it removed the app from its store.

“We have a set of policies designed to provide a great experience for users and developers and we act quickly to remove apps from Google Play that violate those policies,” the spokesperson said.

Google has a set of procedures that publishers must go through before publishing an app on Google Play. These procedures also includes a stage in which an app can be rejected before it is even published to the Play store.

However, it is evident that the filter does not always catch inappropriate apps. There are already similar apps listed on the Play store, including one that is rated E for everyone and is filled with demonic screams.
