Phantogram Release New Single, Announce Tour
Electronic/R&B duo Phantogram are ready to release their still untitled fourth album. The pair — lead vocalist/keyboardist Sarah Barthel and vocalist and guitarist Josh Carter — have released a new tune called “Into Happiness.”
The vibrant, uplifting single is the group’s first new material since 2016’s Three album. The single strikes a balance between heavy bassline funk and an 80s synth beat that is featured in the chorus. Carter sings the verses while Barthel belts out the chorus: “Fall into happiness/Wish you could be here/No more loneliness/You make it perfect.”
Lately, the band has been more active on their Instagram feed than the music front. Their latest post states: “It’s been a long path, coming out of the darkness and into the light.”
The pair released a couple of new songs last year, “Someday,” as well as “Saturday,” a cover of spooky 90s American-indie rock band Sparklehorse.
The proceeds from that single went to The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), a cause that is important to them. Barthel lost her sister, Becky, who suffered from depression and anxiety, to suicide during the making of Three.
Both Carter and Barthel are active with AFSP. Barthel is very vocal about mental health as she told AFSP: “it’s okay to not be okay, but that you should talk to someone about your feelings.”
The band just announced a series of North American tour dates, with electronic duo Bob Moses as the opening act.
