‘Life of a Penn Stater’: Student Government Video Series Sparks Excitement

Penn State is making moves, with its first video in its “Life of a Penn Stater” series featuring Maria Walls, who highlighted how college campuses lack resources for students with disabilities.

On this account, there are many stories being featured such as coming out to friends and family, racism, and disabilities.

The Student Life Committee handles production internally and reaches out to individuals who have stories to share.

“We really looked at different communities at Penn State and figured out what kind of stories we want to hear from them,” UPUA At-Large representative Tyler Akers (sophomore-business management)  said.

Ben Cutler , vice chair of the Facilities Committee also stated,

“I do believe that these videos can have a positive impact on the student body as they are giving a glimpse into the experiences, obstacles and successes of students,” Walls said via email. “It is important to share the stories of people [whose] experiences that most don’t know or understand in order for us to be a more inclusive community. As the popularity of the series grows, UPUA members hope the videos will continue to be a project student government tackles in future assemblies.”
