Move over, Avengers. The sequel to Deadpool managed to rake in $125 million on the opening weekend, bringing the Avengers’ three-week reign atop the box office to an end.

Deadpool 2, starring Ryan Renolds, Josh Brolin, and Morena Baccarin, made its debut on the big screen this past weekend. While Deadpool 2 came short of its predecessor that was released two years ago, which saw $132.4 million, Deadpool 2 still set a new opening day record as the second-highest R-rated opening weekend.

Fox’s president of domestic distribution Chris Aronson said that the strong debut was a testament to Reynolds.

“I just can’t say enough about him,” Aronson said. “Not just the character, but promoting it. I feel great about this opening.”

For the most part, the high revenue corresponds with the public’s approval of the movie. At the time of this writing, Deadpool 2 has a rating of 83% on Rotten Tomatoes and 4/5 on Common Sense Media. However, Metacritic gives the sequel a 66%.

Twitter seems to side with Rotten Tomatoes and Common Sense Media on this one.
