New York Governor Andrew Cuomo Wins a Third Term
Last week Tuesday, Governor Andrew Cuomo was elected for his third term in New York State.
In the 2018 Primary, Governor Cuomo beat his opponent Cynthia Nixon whom criticized Cuomo for the failing New York City Subway system, not protecting undocumented immigrants, legalizing marijuana, and even single payer healthcare system.
Senate Kristen Gillibrand was elected for a second term in New York State. She pledged to serve her entire six-year term.
Who is Kristen Gillibrand? She was appointed to become a senator in 2009 when Hillary Clinton was nominated for Secretary of State. When elected for her first term, she was one of the first senators to support same-sex marriages.
She was one of twenty-four senators who signed a letter stating that Sikh, Hindu, and Arab Americans were targets of violence due to being mistaken for being a Muslim.
In the past year, Gillibrand was very vocal in the #MeToo movement. She publicly called Democratic Senator Al Franken to resign due to Sexual Misconduct allegations. She also focused her time on sexual assault in the military and on college campuses.
