Authorities Still Searching for Missing University of Iowa Student

Authorities are still looking for answers after a 20-year-old college student went missing last Wednesday while out for an evening jog.

Mollie Tibbetts, 20, was last seen via Snapchat when her boyfriend opened a selfie she had sent on Wednesday, July 18. According to Tibbetts’ aunt, Kim Calderwood, the University of Iowa student had been dog sitting at her boyfriend’s brother’s home the night she went missing. It is unclear whether there was any foul play or forced entry into the home, but most of Tibbetts’ belongings were found inside. Calderwood says that police have been unable to locate her cellphone.

Dalton Jack, Tibbetts’ boyfriend, told ABC News that it would have been in routine for his girlfriend to go on a run before settling in for the night. “She goes for a run every night. She likes to go whenever the sun’s not down, but it’s starting to cool off, like 6 or 7,” he said.

Investigators believe Tibbetts left the home for her nightly run and did not return.

According to authorities, Tibbetts was last seen wearing running shorts, a black sports bra and running shoes.

Members of the rural Brooklyn,Iowa community have come together in search for the missing student, dedicating a Facebook page, “Finding Mollie Tibbetts” to updates on the search.
