Benedict Cumberbatch Says He’ll Refuse Any Role, Unless His Female Co-Stars Receive Equal Pay
Today in an interview with Radio Times, Benedict Cumberbatch took his stand on the current Hollywood Debate of equal pay and suggested that actors like himself should boycott projects that do not pay women the same amount as their male co-stars.
“Equal pay and a place at the table are the central tenets of feminism,” says Cumberbatch in the new issue of Radio Times magazine.
Cumberbatch has started his own production company, called SunnyMarch and he is gearing to have more female lead films, he also stated “I’m proud that [partner] Adam [Ackland] and I are the only men in our production company; our next project is a female story with a female lens about motherhood, in a time of environmental disaster. If it’s centered around my name, to get investors, then we can use that attention for a raft of female projects. Half the audience is female!”
Great to see a male ally with some considerable clout in his industry pledging to actually do something to help! Looking forward to seeing (and supporting) what comes of this #EqualityForAll #Equality #MaleAllies https://t.co/uD2qpMHHU3
