Boston College Sneaks Into Top 25
College football rankings were released on Monday and an unfamiliar name slid into the 23rd spot. After impressive offense performances in their first three games, the Boston College Eagles surged to the top 25 for the first time since 2008. After blow out wins in warm up games, the Eagles are 3-0, defeating Umass, Holy Cross, and Wake Forest.
The biggest turnaround for Boston College is their ability to score. The Boston Globe reports Eagle offense accounted for a combined 158 points in their first three games with only a 69 point reduction defensively. Just three seasons ago the Eagles had the number one ranked defense, but an offense that ranked outside the top 100 drove the team to a mere sub five hundred record.
Although the team has yet to play an opponent of high playoff contention, a 3-0 start to the season puts the Eagles in a great position to rebuild the team. With the normal ACC division leaders, FSU, Georgia Tech and Miami, off to poor starts this year, it seems like Clemson may be the only team solidified among the top of the ACC. This opens a door for Boston College to pave the way to serious bowl game contention.
The last season Boston College was ranked among the top 25 was in 2008, a season where NFL veteran Matt Ryan was at the helm of the Eagles’ offense. There excitement is justified, however, Eagles fans should be wary of their team’s performance in the wake of stronger competition in the coming weeks.
