Cirque du Soleil Aerialist Dies After Fatal Fall During Show

After falling during a performance of Cirque du Soleil’s Volta on March 17, the longtime aerialist Yann Arnaud, plummeted to his death in front of a horrified crowd in Tampa, Fla, on Saturday night.

Yann Arnaud of France was performing “the aerial straps number’’ for Cirque’s VOLTA show when he apparently lost hold of his rope while swinging about 12 to 15 feet above the stage and fell, witnesses and the company said.

Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group President and CEO Daniel Lamarre stated, “The entire Cirque du Soleil family is in shock and devastated by this tragedy. Yann had been with us for over 15 years and was loved by all who had the chance to know him,” Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group president and CEO Daniel Lamarre said. “Over the coming days and weeks, our focus will be on supporting Yann’s family and our employees, especially the VOLTA team, as we go through these difficult times together.”

The final two performances of VOLTA, both originally scheduled for Sunday, were canceled.
