Coca-Cola is Closely Eyeing the Cannabis-Infused Drink Market

The Coca-Cola Company has reportedly announced on Monday to Bloomberg that the company is closely watching the growing marijuana-infused drinks market, and is starting to have talks with Canada’s Aurora Cannabis Inc.

A statement released to Bloomberg by Coca-Cola spokesman, Kent Landers, stating “We are closely watching the growth of non-psychoactive CBD as an ingredient in functional wellness beverages around the world… the space is evolving quickly. No decisions have been made at this time.”

They also clarified, you won’t be getting stoned off of their drinks, because “the discussions with Aurora are focused on CBD-infused drinks to ease inflammation, pain, and cramping, CBD, or cannabidiol, is the chemical in the pot plant often used for medicinal purposes and doesn’t produce the high that comes from THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol”

Even though the talks between Coca-Cola and Aurora Cannabis are not confirmed,  Aurora’s stocks soared due to the news breaking, jumping as much as 23 percent on Monday in New York to almost $10. If this partnership ends up being true, this would mark the first entry of a major manufacturer of non-alcoholic beverages into the market for cannabis-related products, in an industry where alcoholic beverage companies have been flocking.
