There is no word on the next steps in the process or whether Tercero has confessed to the killing or will be extradited to the U.S.
Reports are also surfacing that contradict earlier information that Tercero and Anderson dated. Some reports indicate there was never a sustained relationship between the two and that Tercero may have been infatuated with Anderson.
CMN will continue to update this story as developments warrant.

UPDATE: Tuesday, March 13, 2018:
Authorities have identified 22-year-old Orlando Tercero as the person of interest in the death of Haley Anderson, according to FOX40. Police believe he fled to Nicaragua, though the reasons for that are unclear.
Both Tercero and Anderson were nursing students at Binghamton and were believed to previously have been in a romantic relationship, though the extent of that remains unclear at this time.
The Broome County (N.Y.) District Attorney issued this statement:
“The Broome County District Attorney’s Office will continue working with the Binghamton Police Department, and federal agencies to investigate and aggressively prosecute this case. Though we cannot bring Haley Anderson back, we will fight for justice. The case will be presented to a Grand Jury; upon an indictment, a warrant will be filed.”
Below is CMN’s original report, published on March 12, 2018:
A person of interest in the death of a SUNY Binghamton college student has fled the country and authorities are unsure where he might be.
22-year-old Haley Anderson, a senior nursing student expected to graduate from Binghamton this May, was found dead in an off-campus residence Friday afternoon.
The person of interest is understood to have previously been in a romantic relationship with Anderson.
The New York Post reports that an autopsy showed that her death was a homicide, but the cause of death was not immediately released, nor was the identity of her former boyfriend.
The university mourned the death in a Facebook post Friday night.
“The Binghamton University community is deeply saddened to learn of the death of senior nursing student Haley Anderson, whose death is being investigated by the Binghamton Police Department,” the post read.
A police statement released over the weekend read, in part, “The victim and male student had a previous domestic/romantic relationship. The Investigation determined that the person of interest has left the United States by international air travel flight.”
Anyone with information is being asked to contact the Binghamton Police Department.
