Dreaming of Revenge
He wiped his Instagram account clean, adding fuel to the hype for the long awaited release of Revenge of the Dreamers III. The day after the purge, J. Cole, founder of Dreamville Records, announced via Instagram post that his new single “Middle Child” would be dropped on Wednesday, January 23 at 9 P.M.
The Dreamville record label consists of J. Cole, Bas, Cozz, Ari Lennox, Omen, and Lute. The last Revenge of the Dreamers compilation was released in December of 2015, making this anticipated project the second of its kind.
The studio sessions, known as the Revenge sessions, were coordinated entirely in Atlanta, GA. The sessions began on January 6 after Cole posted a flyer to his Instagram and Twitter accounts for the studio time with the caption requesting the participation, presence of artists during the recording process, and to reach out to their Dreamville representative for transportation and lodging.
Amongst the Dreamville team were some of the most well-known artists and producers such as T.I., Wale, Rick Ross, Big K.R.I.T., Westside Gunn, Ski Mask the Slump God, Tay Keith, Kenny Beats, PNB Rock, Masego, BJ the Chicago Kid, Meek Mill, Isaiah Rashad, and rapper Big Pooh.
As stated on Billboard’s website, Cole’s manager, Ibrahim Hamad, previewed footage on his Instagram story from the recording sessions and a snippet of a song that may or may not be included on the album as Hamad stated that “124 songs/ideas” were cultivated in the 10 days of recording.
On January 16, Cole had a tweet for his fans: “The Revengers sessions are done thank you to every artist and producer that came through. I love ya’ll, that shit was beautiful. Next step, finish the songs and let the [world emoji] feel em.”
