Florida Gov. Rick Scott Announces Run for Senate

Earlier today, Florida Republican Rick Scott announced his run for Senate against democrat Sen. Bill Nelson, according to CNN. He announced his entry into this election on his social media where he also reviewed his two terms that he served as governor of the sunshine state.

In his video he explains what he would want to do in Washington, saying: “I never planned to fit in, and I won’t fit in in Washington, either. It’s time to shake that place up. We don’t need another politician in Washington. It’s full of politicians, and that’s why it’s broken.” When asked if he considers himself to be a “Donald Trump Republican,” he told Politico that he considers himself to be Rick Scott and that he doesn’t consider himself as any type of anything, even though he is notoriously conservative and known for his admiration of the president.

Nelson isn’t going down without a fight. “I’ve always run every race like there’s no tomorrow — regardless of my opponent. While it’s clear that Rick Scott will say or do anything to get elected, I’ve always believed that if you just do the right thing, the politics will take care of itself, ” Nelson said in a statement.

Scott is viewed as the only opponent with the ability to seriously challenge Nelson, with his willingness to spend tens of millions of dollars on his campaigns, which isn’t out of the ordinary considering that Florida is known for its television advertising.

According to his website, Gov. Scott says he is focused on creating jobs and turning Florida’s economy around and cares about faith, family and community. South Dakota Republican Sen. Mike Rounds support Scott on CNN’s “New Day” Monday morning, but didn’t fully endorse him, saying: “Senator Nelson is a friend of mine. He is a hard worker. At the same time we need votes,” he said. “I would welcome (Scott’s) inclusion in the race.”

However, that doesn’t mean he won’t be running without criticism.
