Frances McDormand (Almost) Lost Her Oscar
Sunday was a star-studded night Oscar night in Los Angeles, filled with dazzling ensembles, celebrities and Academy Award winners — though the show did get historically low television ratings. One winner, however, almost missed out on taking their statue home.
Actress Frances McDormand, who won her first Best Actress Oscar in 1997 for Fargo, took home the same title this year for her performance in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
This year, the win took an unexpected turn when McDormand’s award went missing while attending the Governor’s Ball.
47-year old Terry Bryant was apprehended with the Oscar and is currently facing charges for grand theft. His bail has been set at $20,000 and he now has a future court date to look forward to.
McDormand’s personally engraved statue was returned to her shortly after it was found. Following the incident, one of McDormand’s representatives released the following statement:
“Fran and Oscar are happily reunited and are enjoying an In-N-Out burger together.”
