Google to Offer IT Certificate at Community Colleges
Google recently announced that they are bringing their IT Support Professional Certificate to 25 community colleges across the country. The college offer is a part of Google’s “Grow With Google” program, which offers free training in order to help people expand their skills and succeed in the workforce.
Google suggests that the certificate program can be completed in about eight months depending on how the students pace themselves. No experience is required to sign-up for the course and since their January launch through Coursea, over 40,000 people have enrolled in the program.
According to Google, the program introduces students to “troubleshooting and customer service, networking, operating systems, system administration, and security — all the fundamentals of IT support that are critical for success in the workplace.” With the IT field growing everyday, Americans in the workforce can benefit from the affordable program.
Upon completion of the course Google is committed to supporting students in the next step, finding a job. The company initially partnered with 20 of the nation’s top IT employers, and recently announced 14 more partnerships. Once students complete the program they have the option of allowing Google to share their information directly with companies who are looking to hire IT professionals.
Students at community colleges in Illinois, Michigan, Texas, California, Wisconsin, and New York will be able to enroll in the program this fall.
