‘Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation’ Reminds Us That Learning Tolerance can be Fun

Image result for hotel transylvania 3The next film in my crazy summer movie quest is fantasy-comedy “Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation.”

If you read my very first introduction post, I am a rom-com gal. Sure, I tend to step out of my comfort zone here and there, seeing an action or documentary movies, but fantasy movies, not so much. I think the production, creativity, and ideas are clever, as well as the technology used to create the film in the first place. I prefer real life people acting on a screen as opposed to anything animated. But for the sake of my quest, I thought: why not give this movie a shot?

My thoughts: I think the movie was cute and funny. I definitely think the goal was to grab the attention and admiration of little kids. I enjoy that each character is distinct and has their own qualities and personality. The recurring themE of the film was that we all have differences, but if we see past them, we see we are not so different after all. Everyone is struggling with something or excited about something; we can’t be so quick to judge.

I had no background on the series before seeing this movie, but after seeing and then researching, I will warn that this movie DOES have more scary and violent aspects than the previous films. It is all comical, but if you are looking to see this movie with a child, it can be frightening.

In all, the movie provides many powerful messages such as, but not limited to: diversity, communication and its importance, and not holding grudges. I think discussing these themes with children allows them to get an idea of the value and significance of these topics in everyday life and also prepares them for their future.
