Harvard’s not a fan of the new tax law
Harvard is likely to pay tens of millions in added federal taxes after Congress passed a $1.5 trillion bill that includes a tax on returns from large university endowments.
The Harvard Crimson reports, “University President Drew G. Faust called the new endowment tax ‘unprecedented’ in an emailed statement to The Crimson Wednesday, adding it will constrain the University’s finances and limit its capacity to fund certain programs.”
Faust and Harvard’s federal relations team based out of D.C. have lobbied lawmakers for years to preserve the University’s tax-exempt status.
Yale students haven’t forgotten about three professors accused of sexual assault
Yale University President Peter Salovey sent an email to the Yale community early in the morning on Dec. 16 reaffirming the University’s commitment to preventing sexual assault, but students were not assured.
The Yale Daily News reports, “Hours later, students began a call to action, demanding that Salovey explain why Yale has not responded to well-publicized accusations of sexual misconduct leveled against three University professors: English professor Harold Bloom, philosophy professor Thomas Pogge and Spanish professor Roberto González Echevarría.”
Several students then made a Facebook event inviting members of the Yale community to respond to Salovey’s email and to get answers regarding the three professors accused of sexual assault.
