Ivanka Trump to Shut Down Fashion Business
Ivanka Trump announced on Tuesday that she will be closing down her clothing line. The first daughter is making the change in order to focus more on her role as senior advisor in the White House.
In a statement to NBC News, Ms. Trump noted that despite the success of her brand she is unsure if she will venture back into the fashion business. “After 17 months in Washington, I do not know when or if I will ever return to the business, but I do know that my focus for the foreseeable future will be the work I am doing here in Washington, so making this decision now is the only fair outcome for my team and partners,” she said.
Trump started her brand in 2014, with sales picking up during her father’s 2016 presidential campaign. Simultaneously the Ivanka brand was also hit with anti-Trump sentiments and calls for boycotts over her father’s controversial statements.
Over the past year retailers began to distance themselves from fashion line, phasing out many of the Ivanka brand goods. In 2017 Nordstrom declined to renew the Trump line, causing the president to take to Twitter to share his thoughts.
My daughter Ivanka has been treated so unfairly by @Nordstrom. She is a great person — always pushing me to do the right thing! Terrible!

According to The Wall Street Journal, Ms. Trump will address her staff of 18 employees later today.
