While Combatting Cancer, John McCain Urges Joe Biden to Remain in Politics

While visiting an ailing Senator John McCain in Arizona last Sunday, former Vice President Joe Biden disclosed in an interview with The New York Times on Saturday that he was urged by the former to “do not ‘walk away’ from politics. ”

The New York Times reports that 81-year old McCain remains wholeheartedly preoccupied with the nation’s ongoing affairs as he recuperates from the incapacitating side-effects of his vigorous cancer treatment. According to NBC Chicago, McCain had intended to make a reappearance in Washington earlier this year but was ultimately unable to do so. While in recovery, McCain has divulged personal reflections of his political career and his aspirations for the nation with close friends.

In an interview with The New York Times, Biden disclosed what he and McCain had discussed about during his visit, stating that “we talked about how our international reputation is being damaged and we talked about the need for people to stand up and speak out.” When questioned about his potential 2020 presidential run, Biden declined to comment.

Both McCain’s new book “The Restless Wave,” and a two-hour HBO documentary are set to be released later this month, in which McCain will criticize President Trump for his reluctance to admit refugees into the United States as well as the president’s inappropriate praise of autocrats like Russian President Vladimir Putin, as reported by USA Today.

According to The New York Times, McCain expresses a regret that he continues to have, in his HBO documentary, as his wish that he had selected his friend Democratic Sen. Joe Lieberman as his running mate in the 2008 presidential race, labeling it “another mistake that I made.” Lieberman has since stated that he had been unaware of McCain’s regret until he viewed the documentary and has acknowledged that “it touched me greatly.”
