‘Never Again!’ March for Our Lives Gun Control Protests Sweep D.C., Nation

Hundreds of thousands of protesters gathered in Washington, D.C. and across the nation yesterday, calling for stricter gun control laws. The main event began in Washington, D.C. at 12 p.m. ET and is was mainly led by high school students hoping to enact stronger gun legislation.

David Hogg, a student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and one of the main leaders for the March for Our Lives protest movement, said protesters are “going to make this the voting issue.”

Voter registration booths were set up at many of the events and organizers hope to send a strong message during the November midterm elections.

The National Rifle Association and it’s powerful lobby remained mostly silent yesterday. CNN reports:

As of mid-afternoon on the East Coast, when most of the marches were over, the National Rifle Association had yet to post a single tweet — about the marches or anything else.

It was a notable contrast from March 14, the day students across the country walked out of school to demand action on gun violence. On that day, the NRA tweeted 13 times — including one that contained an image of an AR-style rifle along with the message, “I’ll control my own guns, thank you.”

Many protestors and supporters of the movement have shown their support online as well.

In London, protesters gathered outside of the U.S. Embassy in solidarity with the U.S. protests holding posters that read ”Never Again” and “Enough is Enough.”

Several counter protesters are also happening, such as the pro-gun rally, March Before Our Lives, in Salt Lake City, Utah, where gun-rights activists shouted “freedom” in opposition to gun legislation.
