Massachusetts Senate Passes Bill to Allow Gender ‘X’ on State Identification Cards

Massachusetts senators have passed a bill that would let those seeking identification designate their gender as “X” instead of “male” or “female.”

This bill was brought forth from Democratic Sen. Karen Spilka, who said the proposal recognizes the rights of transgenderindividuals.

Currently, California, Oregon, and Washington D.C. have the option to make Gender X on their legal forms of identification.

If this is passed by the House, it will go into effect November 1st.
