Meet the Writer: Charlotte Kohlberg
As an aspiring writer with an intense passion for music, Charlotte Kohlberg’s journey into music journalism was a perfect fit.
Born in Palo Alto, California, Kohlberg’s love of music started with the pop punk princesses of the early 2000s — P!nk and Avril Lavigne. After majoring in art history at NYU, she took an interest in music marketing and A&R work. But a chance meeting with a music journalist in the Bay Area led her on the path to music journalism. Since then, she has been working for the Knockturnal, an entertainment website operated out of New York.
Charlotte’s biggest strength is her undying drive to write about her musical passion. She can do in-depth research on artists of all platforms and has an intrinsic knack for writing with her own unique voice. She also says that her tactics for writing include writing in the morning so that she has a quiet space and the story can manifest in an organic way rather than being forced.
While the city sleeps, Charlotte is wide awake bringing insightful takes on all things musical.
Charlotte’s musical tastes focus mainly on alternative and indie rock, but she has also had some experience interviewing artists such as Ratcheton, who is best known for his work in Latin pop music. But her aspirations are to interview some of the heavy hitters of the rock music scene like Green Day and singer-songwriter Ziggy Alberts.
Charlotte wants her music journalism career to blossom and says that her ideal job as a music journalist would be to work for Rolling Stone. Until then, she wants to find a place for herself in the music community where she can make a profit from writing about what she loves most.
She says that she is starting out fresh in the community and is making the first baby steps toward a career in journalism. Though she seems acutely aware that she is only in these first steps, it won’t be long before those first steps turn into a sprint towards success.
With her intense focus and varied passion for music, we are sure to be hearing great things from Charlotte in the near future.
