Miley Cyrus No Longer Apologizes for 2008 Nude Photoshoot
Exactly ten years ago, fifteen-year-old Miley Cyrus posed nude for Vanity Fair, photographed by famous celebrity photographer Annie Liebovitz. At the time, the Disney Channel ‘Hannah Montana’ star was deemed too young for such an ‘adult’ spread, and was subsequently pressured into issuing a public apology for her pictures. In 2008, she told People:
“My goal in my music and my acting is always to make people happy. For Vanity Fair, I was so honored and thrilled to work with Annie [Leibovitz]…I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be ‘artistic’ and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed. The pictures of me on the internet were silly, inappropriate shots. I appreciate all the support of my fans, and hope they understand that along the way I am going to make mistakes and I am not perfect. I never intended for any of this to happen and I am truly sorry if I have disappointed anyone. Most of all, I have let myself down. I will learn from my mistakes and trust my support team. My family and my faith will guide me through my life’s journey.”
On the tenth anniversary of her apology, which was this past Saturday, April 28, Miley tweeted a picture of the press release with a caption stating she was no longer sorry for the Vanity Fair photo-shoot in question.

Complete with an expletive, Miley has made it clear that she is not embarrassed to have posed nude for Liebovitz, and that she was coerced by public media to apologize for something that she was okay with at the time. Since her time on Disney Channel, Miley has become a spokesperson for female body positivity, often appearing topless or nude in public to make a statement.
