Stanford to Cut Funding for the University Press

Stanford University has announced that it will stop giving support to the Stanford University Press. University presses are largely school-funded, even when it comes to such a successful press as Stanford U. For instance, in past years the press has published over 130 books per year bringing in about $5 million in sales annually, but the school was contributing about $1.7 million each year to make this feat possible. Over 1,000 people have signed a petition to give funding back to the university’s press. This news is a bit of a shock considering Stanford has the world’s third largest endowment, so if they can’t fund a university press then what school can?
