Shooter Kills 1, Injures 3 in San Diego Synagogue Attack
A 19-year-old man is in custody after walking into a synagogue on Saturday and shooting those inside, leaving at least one person dead and three injured on what was the last day of Passover. CNN reports, “The shooting occurred at Congregation Cha bad in Poway, north of San Diego, Poway Mayor Steve Vaus said. He described it as a possible hate crime.” Mayor Vaus believes the attack to be a hate crime because of the statements the shooter shouted when he entered the synagogue.

Stanford to Cut Funding for the University Press
Stanford University has announced that it will stop giving support to the Stanford University Press. University presses are largely school-funded, even when it comes to such a successful press as Stanford U. For instance, in past years the press has published over 130 books per year bringing in about $5 million in sales annually, but the school was contributing about $1.7 million each year to make this feat possible. Over 1,000 people have signed a petition to give funding back to the university’s press. This news is a bit of a shock considering Stanford has the world’s third largest endowment, so if they can’t fund a university press then what school can?

‘Avengers: Endgame’ Breaks Box Office Record at $1.2 Billion
The Avengers’ final film broke box office records, making $350 million in the U.S. over opening weekend and $1.2 billion globally. Avengers: Endgame outdid box office predictions and the records set last year by Endgame: Infinity Wars. This record-breaking weekend shows not only the popularity of this movie franchise but also the power of the studio that made them: Disney.

Clippers Take Game Six From Warriors
Shooting an astounding 54.1 percent from the field and 57 bench points from two players, the Los Angeles Clippers silenced the Golden State Warriors, despite a 45 point performance from the Warriors’ Kevin Durant. In an exciting finish, the underdog Clippers bruised it out and walked away with a 129-121 victory against the two-time reigning champs. Aside from their tremendous field goal percentage, free-throw efficiency nailed the coffin as the Clippers shot 24-26, an unthinkable 92.3 percent. Read more in Adam Shay’s report for CMN.
