Oprah Winfrey Exhibit Set to Open at Smithsonian Museum
The National Museum of African American History and Culture will open their new “Watch Oprah” exhibit this Friday.
The exhibit is a celebration of Oprah Winfrey’s life and successes over the years.
On Wednesday, Oprah, close friends, and select media got their first look at the completed 4,300-square-foot exhibit. It highlights the cultural influences in Oprah’s life and how they shaped her into the woman she is today. Kathleen Kendrick, exhibit curator, describes the exhibit as being about Oprah, but you don’t just see Oprah.

The exhibit includes over 200 items displayed, including pages from Winfrey’s personal journal and the suit she wore in her infamous car giveaway episode.
The yearlong exhibit also features interviews, video clips, and personal photographs detailing life of the media executive and her historical contributions to society. ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ had a major impact on day-time television when it aired in 1986, becoming the highest-rated talk show in history.
As Winfrey walked through the exhibit with ‘CBS This Morning’ co-host and best friend Gayle King she questioned, “How many people are alive who get exhibits?”
The exhibit will open to the public this Friday during regular museum hours.
