Police Issue Public Apology to Nassar Victim: ‘We Were Duped’

Michigan police yesterday took the extraordinary step of issuing a public apology to a woman who went to them in 2004 with accusations against convicted serial sex abuser Larry Nassar, which they failed to fully investigate.

“We wish we that this one back,” Meridian Township Police Chief Dave Hall said yesterday at a news conference.

Brianne Randall-Gay was 17 at the time she filed a complaint against Nassar, but the case was closed after the former Michigan State doctor showed officers a PowerPoint presentation explaining what he had done to Randall-Gay was part of a medical procedure

Township Manager Frank Walsh said Nassar showed officers a “stack of medical journals,” according to a BBC report.

“He duped us,” Walsh said.

Randall-Gay and her mother went to police with accusations that Nassar rubbed the girl’s breasts and attempted to penetrate her with his fingers.

Randall-Gay appeared on video at the news conference from Washington State, saying she felt she was “ignored” by police.
