Pondering the Inspirational Erykah Badu

In a video posted on Instagram, singer and songwriter Erykah Badu does a short jam session for Instagram vibin’, just being her natural, beautiful self.

Badu is often called the queen of neo-soul and has been compared to jazz singer Billie Holiday. She’s been one of my inspirations when it comes to singing and writing, and she brings out a different sense of herself in this clip.

When she started her career in the 90’s, it was a different time and the industry, but Badu always had her own style, energy, and pop. With her soulful vocals and colorful headwraps, she personified a free spirit who spreads positive affirmations into all her social media posts.

Badu has always inspired up-and-coming singers and musicians. Her lyrics and rhymes are always relatable and deliver spiritual power. She has stayed true to her style though the years, and commands respect.

Change can be good, especially when it comes to ideas of music and style, but Badu kept her ways with rhythm and singing and it feels like going back into the good old days. She can inspire people to push yourself to always be a better you, stand up for yourself and not shit from anyone.
