Puerto Rican Universities Only Receive a Fraction of Hurricane Maria Aid
Seven months after devastating Hurricane Maria struck in September of last year, Puerto Rican Universities have still not fully recovered.
Since the storm, the Education Department has granted millions of taxpayer dollars to universities affected, however, where the storm had the most impact in Puerto Rico, yet the smallest amount of aid was granted to those affected schools.
“Instead, elite institutions like New York University and the University of Southern California have received aid, as have Liberty University, the Christian school in Virginia run by President Trump’s ally Jerry Falwell Jr., and Grand Canyon University, a Christian, for-profit college in Arizona,” according the the New York Times.
Only $8.9 million from the $41 million relief fund has been given to Puerto Rico, despite the horrific affect that Maria inflicted on the island.
