Rosenstein is Reportedly Expecting to be Fired
Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein may be on his way out of the White House on Monday.
According to reports from Axios, a source close to Rosenstein says that he is expecting to be fired. Rosenstein is headed to the White House to meet with the chief of staff, John Kelly, where many suspect that he may formally resign.
The expected departure of Rosenstein comes as a result of reports of him secretly recording President Trump. The New York Times reported that Rosenstein suggested taping President Trump and recruited cabinet members to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove the President from office.
The deputy attorney general reportedly made these suggestions back in 2017, just a few weeks after he began overseeing the Russian investigation and the dismissal of FBI director James B. Comey.
Rosenstein has since denied the Times report stating, “I never pursued or authorized recording the President and any suggestion that I have ever advocated for the removal of the President is absolutely false.”
The President is in New York Monday for meetings with the United Nations, however; over the weekend he stated that he was waiting for more facts in order to decide what to do with Rosenstein.
Sarah Sanders released a statement on Monday stating that the President will meet with Rosenstein on Thursday upon his return to the White House.
