Southwest Airlines Will No Longer Serve Peanuts on Flights
Free bags of peanuts have been a defining factor for Southwest Airlines since their very first flights out of Dallas Love Field, but that will soon change.
Starting August 1 Southwest Airlines will stop giving out peanuts in an attempt to be more accommodating to travelers with peanut allergies. For years people have pushed for the airline to remove their snack of choice arguing that it is a health hazard.
In a statement released Monday night Southwest announced the end of an era. “Peanuts forever will be part of Southwest’s history and DNA. However, to ensure the best on-board experience for everyone, especially for customers with peanut-related allergies, we’ve made the difficult decision to discontinue serving peanuts on all flights beginning August 1,” Southwest said.
The airline took to Twitter with some light-hearted humor on how they will go about replacing the beloved free snack.

Although the threat of peanuts will be removed, officials say passengers should still indicate any type of allergy they have upon booking a flight.
As of now Southwest will offer pretzels in lieu of peanuts along with other snacks during their longer flights.
