Track Review: Adrianne Lenker ‘Terminal Paradise’
“Terminal Paradise” not only serves as a dreamy, yet confident introduction to Big Thief lead singer Adrianne Lenker’s first solo project abysskiss, it’s a somber take on selfish love.
The Brooklyn born Lenker is no newbie to the music scene. She got interested in music at a very young age, with support from her family. Lenker’s father is a songwriter, and by age 13 she was working with producers, working on a pop career.
She formed Big Thief with Buck Meek, Max Oleartchik, and James Krivchenia in 2015 and released two albums with the band.
Now, she serenades over a sleepy time indie folk tune produced by Luke Temple. It comes across as a haunting lullaby of temporary love, which results in something mysteriously beautiful.
“See my death become a trail/And the trail leads to a flower”
Lenker floats above and thru a wonderland. This tune not only showcases her vocal ability, but her strength as a songwriter.
If the single is any indication of what we can expect from this indie angel’s solo effort, then Lenker will most definitely become a leading voice in our alternative future.
