The Cure to Release New Album in 2019

I can already hear the excitement among post-punk-loving goths: 2019 is The Cure’s 40thanniversary of the iconic English band’s first album. And they recently announced their first new album in over a decade. 

In December of 2018, leader Robert Smith shared the news during a call in to SiriusXM Volume’s “Debatable” afternoon show. The proud lead singer and co-founder of the band is the only member that has been constant throughout the band’s existence and to complement their album release, the band will also be going on tour this year, with multiple dates already announced in Europe.  

The band gained momentum following their successful appearance at the 2018 Meltdown Festival, coupled with their initiation into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. 

The Cure’s last album, 4:13 Dream, was released in 2008. The band has been a huge influence on the goth sub-culture that gained a vast amount of popularity following The Cure’s 3rdalbum, 1982’s Pornography.

No official date has been set for the currently untitled new album’s release, but they will perform at the 34th Annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony on March 29th in New York. The ceremony will be broadcast on HBO accompanied by a SiriusXM show.
