Tom Cruise Creates Hype for Highly Anticipated ‘Top Gun’ Sequel
After 32 years, Top Gun: Maverick is officially in production!
Hollywood action star Tom Cruise teased his Twitter followers Wednesday evening with a promotional photograph of the upcoming Top Gun sequel captioned “#Day1.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cruise will reprise his iconic character as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, the role which helped to catapult Cruise to fame in 1986. Top Gun: Maverick’s storyline is said to be set under present-day circumstances and will follow the efforts of fighter pilots who struggle to deal with new “drone tech that is making their old style of flying obsolete. ”
Following Cruise’s tweet, #TopGun2 has been trending on Twitter, with fans expressing their delight for the long awaited sequel.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Top Gun: Maverick will be directed by Joseph Kosinski. Jerry Bruckheimer, who formerly produced the original Top Gun, will be returning to co-produce the film with Skydance’s David Ellison and Cruise.
Top Gun: Maverick is slated to hit theaters July 19th, 2019.
