Track Review: Jozef Van Wissen and Jim Jarmusch: ‘Concerning the White Horse’

“Concerning the White Horse” from the album An Attempt to Draw Aside the Veil by minimalist composer Jozef Van Wissem and american film director and musician Jim Jarmusch is a nine-minute ambient and evil tune.

From the album art to the track, its filled with a relaxing and dark feel that leaves goosebumps. Van Wissem and Jarmusch collaborated years back making Apokatastasis, “Concerning the Entrance into Eternity,” and The Mystery of Heaven released on Sacred Bones Records in 2012. Van Wissem also contributed music to Jarmusch’s film Only Lovers Left Alive.

Wissem and Jarmusch’s album release this year has featured more of a dark vibe and seems as if it was meant for an adventure film filled with goblins and wizards. Dark ambient noise seems universal, but not all would enjoy it the same way and it isn’t everyone’s first choice.

Wissem and Jarmusch’s 2012 album The Mystery of Heaven was a happy and bright jam versus the current album, and it’s refreshing to listen to “Concerning the White Horse” after The Mystery of Heaven, because it’s two very different moods. Moving from a relaxing ambient and chill album and progressing into a dark and eerie world. I highly recommend taking a listen to their first track that they put out before the full release

Everything from the new track is very minimal but it comes with change of mood and aesthetic the more of the song goes through.

They make music in a way that it could be put into anywhere universally. No matter if it is dancing, sleeping, meditating, or film it can fit perfectly.
