Trump’s Twitter Throwdown, Aiming at Biden’s Fire Union Support
President Trump was feeling fiery, via his Twitter account, when he retweeted more than five dozen messages in an hour Wednesday morning, due to The International Association of Fire Fighters openly voicing their support to 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, Joe Biden. This is the largest union to so far support any presidential candidate.
Starting at about 6:00 AM, Trump lashed out about the fire union voicing their support, re-tweeting claims that he has the backing, of all firefighters in the country. Before Trump’s massive retweet spree, he tweeted “I’ve done more for Firefighters than this dues sucking union will ever do, and I get paid ZERO!”
In less than an hour, he retweeted more than 50 people, who said they supported him over Biden. These retweets all stemmed from a tweet from a conservative radio host, voicing his support for President Trump.
One of the biggest problems spiraling towards this retweet spree is the legitimacy of the accounts he shared to his profile. According to ABC News, “Of the users Trump retweeted Wednesday morning, one account clearly used “very carefully crafted verbatim content” directed at particular users and frequently used by coordinated disinformation campaigns, according to an analysis by Darren Linvill, an associate professor at Clemson University who researches social media and disinformation coordination, including the Russian Internet Research Agency.”
With the 2020 race nearing, presidential advisors have warned President Trump against targeting Biden and responding to Democratic candidates’ attacks, in fears of creating a rivalry between candidate hopefuls.
