UC Berkeley to Offer Course on Frank Ocean

Two UC Berkeley students’ proposal for a course on alt-R&B singer Frank Ocean has been approved.

Preya Gill and her roommate Deborah Chang are the two young women behind “Brain like Berkeley”, a course discussing Ocean’s artistry. The two students credit their immediate bonding as roommates to Ocean’s music. After finding out the UC Berkeley accepted proposals for student taught courses, they decided to use Ocean as their subject of choice.

The pair reportedly told The Fader that the course will cover the singer’s “artistic history, upbringing, background, musical influences, artist identity, and the way he challenges dominant social concepts such as toxic-masculinity and gender politics.”

Since the approval Gill has taken to Twitter to share updates on her exciting news.

Students at UC Berkeley will be able to sign-up for the new course beginning this fall.
