University of Louisville Pulls Papa John’s Name From Stadium
The fallout from racist remarks made by Papa John’s founder John Schnatter continues, as University of Louisville President Neeli Bendapudi said today the school is changing the name of its football stadium to Cardinal Stadium, removing the Papa John’s sponsorship.
The school has also removed Schnatter’s name from the Center for Free Enterprise on campus. Papa John’s corporate headquarters are in Louisville.
As we reported on Thursday, Schnatter, resigned from his position after reports emerged of him using the N-word during a conference call earlier this year. The company announced late Wednesday night that they had accepted Schnatter’s resignation and have plans to replace the chairman in the coming weeks.
Louisville football players Seth Dawkins and Jaylen Smith took to Twitter earlier this week to advocate for a stadium name change after Schnatter admitted his use of the racial slur.
Schnatter graduated with a business degree from Ball State University in Indiana in 1983.
