Virginia Tech Survivor Meets Meets The Man Who Saved Her Life
Kristina Anderson, the head of a nonprofit dedicated to school safety, attended a conference last week on violence prevention in Alexandria, Virginia. Anderson had a particularly personal attachment to the issue, as she was a survivor of the Virginia Tech shooting in 2007. As she recounted her harrowing tale of being shot three times on her campus at nineteen, she called out a man in the audience for recognition.
Curtis Brown was a first responder on the scene of the Virginia Tech shooting. Anderson told the audience, “Curtis and I met for the first time on April 16 — when he carried me outside of Norris Hall.” A visibly moved audience gave Brown a standing ovation, overjoyed to witness the warmth of this reunion eleven years later.
“I’m just so proud of her,” Curtis said. “She’s like one of my daughters. She’s just awesome.”
