2019 Grammy Watch: Best Pop Solo Performance

CMN’s team of music writers is previewing the 2019 Grammy Awards. The 61st annual ceremony will take place Sunday, February 10 in Los Angeles. You can see all of our Grammy coverage here.

Beck: Colors – In October 2017, Beck released his 13th studio album Colors, which is overly pop, but filled with a lot of emotions. Beck has been in the industry for many years, and this record shows why he remains so iconic.

Camila Cabello: Havana – After departing from the popular girl group Fifth Harmony, Camila is singing her way to the top of the charts and taking the world by storm with her spicy hit single, “Havana.” Not only is she making a name for herself, but proving that she can stand out in a crowd.

Ariana Grande: God is a Woman – Since the release of Grande’s fourth studio album this past summer, many lives have become “Sweetner.” The Angelic Voice of Pop continues to give people chills and still causes them to question whether God is really a woman.

Lady Gaga: Joanne – Gaga is at the height of her success- from starring in her first movie, A Star Is Born to winning for Best Actress with Glenn Close at this year’s Critics Choice Awards. It is only fitting that one of her songs is up for nomination. This record is also one of the most authentic, yet personal songs on the album.

Post Malone: Better Now – There is always a powerful or significant message that Post Malone gives when rapping. In his most recent song, “Better Now,” talks about resentment or guilt that people might experience in a relationship. He raps: “You probably think that you are better now, better now/You only say that ’cause I’m not around, not around/You know I never meant to let you down, let you down/Woulda gave you anything, woulda gave you everything.”

Most Likely to Win

All of this year’s nominees are phenomenal, but it looks like Camilla Cabello, simply because “Havana” is such a catchy bop.

Who Should Win

Lady Gaga continues to prove that she can do it all and deserves the award.
