Amendola Joins the List of Former Patriot Haters

Danny Amendola, former wide receiver and Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots, is now the replacement in Miami for departed Dolphin superstar Jarvis Landry. Amendola racked up over 600 yards in three of his five seasons with the Patriots and was more utilized as a playoff pass catcher, catching touchdown passes in each of the super bowls the Patriots played in while he was with the team. After taking multiple pay cuts to stay with the team, Amendola cashed in this off-season with the Miami Dolphins signing a two year, $12 million contract.

Now on a new team, Amendola is free to talk about his former team, teammates, and especially his former coach, or how he would put it … his principal.

Amendola stated, “Coach Gase is one of the guys. He’s our leader, he’s our head coach, but he’s also our boy. It’s cool, it’s refreshing to have that kind of relationship with a coach, something I haven’t had in a long time.” That long time including his five years spent in New England under coach Bill Belichick. Amendola went on to say how the Patriot Coach was to his team more of a Principal, for better or worse reasons.

Bill Belichick is known for running his Patriots under the “Patriot Way” which has been rumored to relate more to a dictatorship than the dolphins apparently relaxed democracy. Belichick has an attitude as a no nonsense, no horseplay, its my way or the high way kind of coach, and he would be the first to admit it.

But here is the catch: the Patriots have won the AFC East Division that they share with the Dolphins the majority of the time since Bill Belichick has taken over, and by majority the numbers actually come out 17-1. The Dolphins took the division the same year Tom Brady tore his ACL week one, and still only beat the patriots out on a tiebreaker.

So, while Amendola may be able to cash in and relax on the beach down in Miami, the real question is whether coach Gase’s laid back way of facilitating his team can out strategize coach Belichik and his long standing record over the AFC.
