Apple Music Subscriptions May Soon Overtake Spotify in the U.S.

Apple Music is about to become one of the largest music streaming services in the United States.

The company’s US-based paid subscribers are increasing rapidly in comparison to their Swedish counterpart, Spotify. These numbers are not representative of worldwide trends, which show that Spotify almost doubles Apple Music with worldwide paid subscribers.

Spotify reported 70 million subscribers within the last month worldwide, while Apple Music reported 36 million subscribers.

According to Business Insider, Apple Music has been growing so quickly that they may have more US based paying subscribers than Spotify by the summer.

Music labels are looking into another set of figures that highlights the users who sign up for music streaming services with free or deeply discounted services. These options later lead to full subscriptions.

Apple Music, unlike Spotify, does not have a free-service option where users can listen to music with commercials. They instead use a free three month trial of their product, which inflates subscriber numbers in the long haul.
