CMN Vibes: Led Zeppelin

There are so many things that I hate about 2018.

We have a president who possesses the cognitive abilities and the looks of a Cheeto, there have been thousands of immigrant children fearfully separated from their families on American borders, and, thanks to the retirement of Anthony Kennedy and the idiocy of the aforementioned Cheeto, we can probably look forward to dealing with a conservative leaning Supreme Court for the next few decades or so. In other words, it hasn’t been rad, and unfortunately won’t get any better.

But there’s one thing that I’m hopeful for in 2018: there may or may not be a Led Zeppelin reunion in the works.

You read that correctly. According to numerous journalistic sources, as well as bookies who say there’s a 2/1 chance that the group is going to plan a Glastonbury Fest reunion for their 50th anniversary, the odds are looking pretty good. And even if the reunion rumors aren’t true, and my hopes and dreams are dashed into a million pieces, at least we can all look forward to a book release from the three remaining members.

If you know anything about me, it’s probably my unhealthy obsession with all things Led Zeppelin. Last year I accidentally almost spent $250 on an eBay bid for a rare Zeppelin 7-inch record single. In high school I used to run a semi-famous Robert Plant-themed Tumblr (I had over a thousand followers, which is my go-to claim to fame at parties.) When I was 5, I proudly told my kindergarten teacher that “Black Dog” was my new favorite tune, and received an incredibly worried look from the homely 45 year old woman. Obviously, not much has changed on my end, and I would literally swim across the Atlantic Ocean if it meant I got to see Zeppelin for even five seconds of stage time at Glastonbury.

But even despite the group’s constant refusal to reform (I’m looking at you, Robert Plant) for a reunion tour, Led Zeppelin is still responsible for some of the world’s most incredible, genre-bending music of all time. So for all of you locals who only know “Stairway to Heaven,” have no fear: here’s a playlist of 20 obscure Zeppelin songs that you’ve probably never heard of, just in time for the band’s 50 year mark.
