Cynthia Nixon Endorsed by the Democratic Socialists of America and Indivisible Groups

Democratic New York state gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon was recently endorsed on Sunday, July 29 by the New York City chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America, which is considered the largest chapter in the country. She was also endorsed by Indivisible, the national liberal progressive grassroots political organization founded in 2016, after the recent general elections to combat the Trump administration’s policies as well as other big money interests. Nixon’s endorsements from these particular progressive organizations, which are known for electing grassroots activists such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortex in New York City and endorsing rising progressive Democrats such as Texas Congressman Beto Rourke, continue to add to her other recent endorsements from organizations such as the Working Families Party and Our Revolution.

Nixon is running a progressive campaign against current incumbent Governor Andrew Cuomo. Her platform has included progressive taxation on the rich, the establishment of a statewide universal single-payer health care system, public education reform, and the legalization of cannabis for recreational use. Nixon, who described herself as a democratic socialist in July, is hoping for a historic upset against Cuomo in the state’s upcoming primaries on September 13.
