Four Killed in Osmangazi University Shooting

Osmangazi University is the latest school to fall victim to gun violence.

The state-run news agency Anadolu reported that a research assistant at Osmangazi University entered the dean’s office before moving on to other rooms and shot multiple staff members, the university’s rector Hasan Gonen told Anadolu.

Officials have reported that the university’s assistant dean, a faculty secretary, a research assistant and an associate professor are deceased. Three others have been reported injured at this time, however, their injuries have not been reported.

The shooter was identified as Volkan Bayar, who was apprehended by police as he left the scene.

The University wrote a statement on their Twitter page stating “In this unfortunate event, vice dean Mikail Yalcin, faculty secretary Fatih Ozmutlu, teaching faculty Serdar Caglak and researcher Yasir Armagan lost their lives. We wish peace from God for those who lives were lost and patience and condolences to their family and our university community,”
