“Frozen” is Officially a Broadway Musical

Caissie Levy as Elsa on Broadway.

There is now a Broadway adaptation of “Frozen,” the groundbreaking (or, rather, “groundfreezing”) 2013 animated Disney film.

The Broadway musical had its first show Thursday at New York City’s St. James Theatre, creating a live-action rendition of the ever so popular story of Elsa (played on Broadway by Caissie Levy) and Anna (played on Broadway by Patti Murin). The storylines of both the film and the Broadway musical are the same, but some small changes have also been made for the live version.

For those who haven’t yet seen the film or on Broadway, it follows the journey of two royal sisters, one who accidentally freezes over their kingdom. The plot revolves around their relationship and recovering the kingdom. Some of the action scenes from the film were too difficult to recreate on the stage, but that left room for important parts to be fleshed out in the musical. This allows more of an in-depth understanding of the characters.

The musical also includes 12 new songs, but also features many favorites from the film such as “Love is an Open Door” and “For the First Time in Forever.”

Of course, Twitter has had a lot to say about the new Broadway play. There were people expressing how much they loved it.

Some users also had things they didn’t like about it.

Others tweeted about Elsa’s character wearing pants.

If you can’t make it out to the musical, don’t let it go just yet. Creators of the film are also working on the sequel, “Frozen 2,” which will be released in November 2019.
