Heinz Sparks Controversy with ‘Mayochup’
Heinz created a Twitter poll this week asking users if they would want to see Mayochup in U.S. stores. The company agreed to sell it if 500,000 people voted in favor of the condiment. The poll now has nearly 850,000 votes in total.
While it’s still only a potential product, “Mayochup” is a blend of Heinz brand mayonnaise and ketchup to be sold in a convenient bottle. It’s already sold in some middle eastern countries, but the company is attemping to make Mayochup’s American debut.
Want #mayochup in stores? 500,000 votes for “yes” and we’ll release it to you saucy Americans.

Some Twitter users noted that where they’re from, a product like this already exists: fry sauce.
this is called FRY SAUCE you thieves.
1. it’s been in utah for like 100 years
2. fire whoever came up with the name “mayochup” because they’re a mayoCHUMP https://t.co/zB8a2lluKq— 𝚔𝚒𝚗𝚐 (@sagenigma) April 11, 2018
I would rather make my own FRY SAUCE than buy your ridiculous mayochup. Who the hell came up with this name idea. 👏🏻Get👏🏻it👏🏻together👏🏻 Say it with me, it’s fry sauce. 🍟🤦🏻♀️🙅🏻♀️ https://t.co/e5AJQTwLxU

We’ve done this in Utah for decades. We call it fry sauce.

Heinz added its own two cents to this debate, arguing that “only Mayochup is made with New #Heinzmayonnaise and #Heinzketchup.”
It’s a lot of things to a lot of people. But, only Mayochup is made with New #Heinzmayonnaise and #Heinzketchup.

Others thought the name “Mayochup” simply isn’t good enough, and that it should be called “Ketchunaise” instead.
they made a terrible mistake. mayochup? THEY COULD HAVE USED KETCHUNAISE
— Christopher Law U+2714 (@Christopherglaw) April 13, 2018
I USED TO MAKE THIS MYSELF AND I CALLED IT KETCHUNAISE

Others support Heinz’s Mayochup idea.
Since Heinz makes the ketchup everyone puts in their fry sauce I believe Heinz may call it whatever they choose. I make my own but would love to just squeez it out of a bottle! I like every product Heinz makes so there is no doubt mayochup will be delicious!

I only need to open up 34,000 more Twitter accounts and vote yes on all of them to have #mayochup on my grocery shelves. Now only 33,999 to go!

It’s a tough call as to whether or not Mayochup should become a real thing in the U.S. Currently, 55 percent of those who took Heinz’s poll gave it a ‘yes.’
